In 2014, we made transparency a key priority in Plan A by introducing several new commitments. In particular, we committed that by April 2016 we would publish an annual list of our active clothing manufacturers. We have since extended this commitment to cover all locations used to manufacture M&S products.
The factories featured on this interactive map were all active as of the date listed on the map and are contracted by our direct suppliers to produce finished goods which are ready for retail and bear M&S brand logos and marks. Included are all first-tier manufacturing sites which produce M&S branded clothing, clothing accessories, footwear, beauty, food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, homeware, giftware and household products. Excluded are some small continental meat and artisanal cheese suppliers. Other lower tier factories used by our suppliers, for example those which manufacture fabric, yarn and primary food processors are also not included on the map.
As a condition of trade, we require all direct suppliers and contracted factories to join the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex), a web-based database where suppliers disclose information (labour standards, health and safety, environmental) including self-assessments and site audit reports.
Factory information and data is based on self-declared information disclosed on our internal order management systems and Sedex which is then reviewed by our specialist Regional Office teams located in the UK, Turkey, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, China, Cambodia and Vietnam.
We aim to ensure the information on this map is as accurate as possible but as with any large dataset errors and anomalies can occur. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee that the map is completely accurate. We will, however, review and update the data on this map every six months to cross-check the entries and to account for seasonal production taking place during the year. We also reserve the right to remove supplier factories from the map at any time should we suspend or cease trading with a factory for a particular reason.
If you have a query on a specific supplier factory and want to know whether it is currently making goods for M&S, please email us at PlanA@marksandspencer.com and we will confirm its status.
